That happens through four connected stages — compression, condensing, expansion and evaporation — plus a blower that pushes indoor air across a cold coil and duct work that distributes it. Warm air at the vents can come from a $30 capacitor that will not let the compressor start, from a refrigerant charge that dropped because of a slow leak in the evaporator coil, from a blower wheel packed with dust, or from a condenser coil so dirty it cannot reject heat. The four failure families
Electrical. Capacitors, contactors, relays and control boards fail first in this climate because they run hot for eight or nine months of the year. They are also the least expensive category to repair, which is why they get checked early.
Refrigerant. A sealed system does not consume refrigerant. If the charge is low, there is a leak — at a coil, a fitting, a service valve or a line set. Adding refrigerant without finding the leak buys a few weeks and costs the same money again later.
Airflow. Filters, blower motors, blower wheels, closed or crushed ducts, and coils fouled with dust all restrict airflow. Restricted airflow is the leading cause of a frozen evaporator coil, and freezing is what damages compressors.
Drainage. Florida humidity means an indoor coil pulls gallons of water out of the air every day. A clogged condensate line backs up into the pan, trips the float switch, and shuts the system down — or, worse, spills into a ceiling.

Long run hours, high humidity and constant sun exposure are the local variables.
